Abstract

This research is an assessment of evidentiary value of crime scene investigation, views from Nigeria police. In order to achieve the objective of study, data was collected through primary and secondary sources. Data collected was critically analyzed with statistical package of social sciences (SPSS) and major finding revealed that evidentiary value of evidences collected by Nigeria Police is weak. Evidences are collected without search warrants and chain of custody are not maintained. The situation is compounded by the non-utilization of laboratory for crime scene reconstruction. The Nigeria Police should therefore build capacity in crime scene management by training personnel in rudimentary knowledge of forensic application in crime management.

Abstract

Urbanization is by no means a new concept in the lexicon of social sciences. Generally speaking, it has been identified as a sub-set of training in local government. The focus on demographic bias underscores the reason for increased interest in urban areas, particularly in recent times. Urban centres play an indispensable role in national development. As such, it occupies a strong place in national planning and policy discourse. The objective of this paper, therefore, is to identify the challenges facing city life in third world countries in the quest to achieve sustainable development. Data for this study were gathered from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data were collected through observations and interviews, while secondary data were gathered from official records, journals, textbooks and internet sources. Content analysis was adopted for the purpose of this study. The study anchors on the theory of Urban Bias as a framework for analysis. In summary, the study identified that some of the cases of migrations are voluntary while others are not. It concludes that rural-urban migration would persist as long as rural-urban inequalities exist. The study recommends above all that there is need on the part of government to create enabling environment for economic activities to thrive, thereby creating more employment opportunities. This in turn bridge rural-urban inequalities, thus, discourage rural-to-urban migration in third world countries.

 ABSTRACT

Employee commitment (EC) has received much attention by scholars in recent times. This is because the achievement of every organizational goal is dependent on the commitment of employees at the workplace. Procedural justice is concerned with employees perceptions associated with the procedure of rewards, outcomes, decision making and participation in decision making process which is one of the dominating factor in the life of an organization. Both procedural justice and affective commitment are variables directly linked with organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Therefore, the main aim of this study is to identify the impact of procedural justice on affective commitment. The study is a conceptual reviewed of related literature to find the relationship between the two variables. The results of the study revealed that procedural justice is strongly related to affective commitment. Higher and sustained employee affective commitment in the workplace depends very much on procedural justice. A purposeful organisational justice brings out a good employee behaviour, resulting in employee commitment. Therefore, procedural justice is a strong predictor of affective commitment. Based on the findings of the study, it is recommended that organizations should increase the level of justice so as to increase the commitment of employees in the organization.

A Reflection on the Biblical Teaching on Polygamy: Its Impact on the Attitude of Baptist Members Living in Polygamy within Owerri Metropolis, Imo State, Nigeria

A REFLECTION ON THE BIBLICAL TEACHING ON POLYGAMY: ITS IMPACT ON THE ATTITUDE OF BAPTIST MEMBERS LIVING IN POLYGAMY WITHIN OWERRI METROPOLIS, IMO STATE, NIGERIA

Umaru, Victor[1] and Amadi, Queen Eyuche[2]

ABSTRACT

Many Baptist members in Owerri Metropolis find translating their faith when facing challenges. This researcher has observed that this lapse in faith has negatively affected Christian witnessing influence in society, weakened the power of the gospel testimony, weakened the moral and ethical values of the Christian church and message, and lowered Christian impact on children or the younger generation. Its purpose was to determine the impact of Biblical teaching on the attitude of Baptist members toward polygamy, their attitude, their commitment, and how it has affected their beliefs. The study employed a descriptive survey method while the population consisted of all Baptist churches in Owerri Metropolis, and five (5) Baptist churches were selected for sampled study while a stratified random sampling technique was employed. The validation and reliability were ascertained through a pilot study. The result revealed that Christian home marriage relationships affect a partner’s commitment; most polygamists in Owerri metropolis have a negative attitude towards commitment in Bible study, prayer fellowship, and missions organizations, and involvement in church tasks is negatively low. The study recommended that monogamy be encouraged with the ardent teaching of God’s Word and focused discipleship.

Key Words: Bible, Polygamy, Baptist Members, Owerri Metropolis, and Christian Commitment.

Federal College of Education, Okene

Abstract

Women form the backbone of Nigerian economies, accounting for a majority of small and medium-sized businesses, dominating the agriculture sector as primary producers and food processors, as well as in many service sectors. Their full economic empowerment is therefore crucial to increase productivity levels, enhance economic efficiency, and improve overall development outcomes to achieve inclusive growth. However, there was gender imbalance for a long time in the control of wealth in Nigeria particularly in the north because entrepreneurship used to be male-dominated; only men used to own businesses and controlled factors of production. This infamous trend has however dwindled especially in the last two decades but not at a satisfactory level.  This project will examine the multiple obstacles that continue to impede female entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Data that would be used are mainly from secondary sources-Federal Office of Statistics (FOS) (2018), NBS (2017) and Annabel &Mairo (2017) on the variables affecting the growth of female entrepreneurship in Nigeria, particularly in the northern region.  Sources of fuel wood, child marriage and educational exposure of Nigerian women are the three (3) main variables to be used in presenting the available data and how these combines to retard the growth of women entrepreneurship in Nigeria. Also, in-depth interviews would be carried out to complement the secondary data. Sixteen (16) female entrepreneurs shall be purposively selected from sixteen (16) systematically chosen households at Okengwe in Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State and interviewed with a semi-structured questionnaire that centre on various aspects of female entrepreneurship in the State and in Nigeria as a whole. Deductions made from the data and interviews would be presented descriptively from here we make submissions on female entrepreneurship in Nigeria. The research will recommend among others delaying age at marriage and completing at least secondary education by all girls in order to increase women entrepreneurship and reduce poverty among Nigerian women.

Two-hundred and thirty-two (232) copies of questionnaire were retrieved and analyzed from the field survey out of two-hundred and fifty-nine (259) distributed. Spearman’s rank order correlation coefficient statistical tool was employed to ascertain the relationship between the variables. Findings revealed a positive non-significant relationship between the variable employee loyalty and the measures of employee heterogeneity (gender and age heterogeneity). It was concluded that employee loyalty positively but non-significantly relate to employee heterogeneity of deposit money banks in Rivers State. The study suggested that the CBN should increase its routine bank inspections to make sure that the banks are following industry best practices.
