TEACHER’S EFFECTIVENESS AND STUDENTS ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS

Abstract
This study determines the impact of teachers’ effectiveness on students’ academic performance in secondary school in Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State. Survey research design was adopted for this study. The target respondents for this study were purposely the students of three selected secondary schools in Oji-River Local Government Area of Enugu State. 114 respondents used for this study were students of these secondary schools. The questionnaire was prepared in a structured format and consisted of generic questions, the data collected were analyzed and t-test was used to test the formulated hypothesis. In conclusion, teacher effectiveness is a predictor of secondary school students’ academic achievement. The study recommended that teachers should provide adequate academic information to their pupils while also emphasizing the importance of knowledge in their practical lives as responsible individuals.
