LEADERSHIP AND SOCIO-DEVELOPMENT OF RIVERS STATE: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY OF 2005-2015

ABSTRACT
This study examined the impact of leadership on the socio-economic development of Rivers State from 2007-2015. The objective was to study how leadership within the time periods impact on the socio-economic development such as infrastructural development, wellbeing of Rivers State residents and human capital development. One hundred (100) questionnaires were designed and administered to residents in the state. Descriptive statistics, simple percentage and mean were used to analyze respondents’ view. The study found that leadership between 2007-2015 had positive and significant impact on socio-economic development of the state. The study recommended that Leadership in the state should emulate the leadership styles from 2007-2015, policies within the periods should be used by present and future leaders of the state. Leaders in the state should imbibe the spirit of patriotism. Present and future government should embark on not just the deceptive increment number of project within the state capital but real development in terms of standard of living, health, education, food, security and infrastructural development must be given prominence in all the local government and communities in the state.
