Abstract

This study empirically examined the relationship between employability skills and career adaptability among employees of deposit money banks in Rivers State, Nigeria. The study focused on the managers of the selected banks. A cross sectional survey was adopted and a total of 75 managers were covered. The convenient sampling technique was adopted. Copies of questionnaire were administered to get relevant data from respondents. From the total of 75 copies that were distributed, only 73 of the respondents correctly filled the research instrument. The data was analysed using Spearman Rank Correlation Coefficient from which the formulated hypotheses were tested with an aid of SPSS version 21.0. The outcome of the analysis showed that all the dimensions of employability skills had positive correlation with career adaptability. Based on findings, the study concluded that employability skills in terms of problem-solving skill, adaptability skills and leadership skills are key factor in enhancing the career adaptability of employees in the deposit money banks. It was thus recommended among others that employees in the deposit money banks should ensure that they possess the ability to direct others and also adapt to unexpected circumstances, as such will enable them to achieve success in their chosen career.
