Abstract:

The study explored the relationship between entrepreneurial education and entrepreneurial intention of undergraduate students in universities. An analytic descriptive survey design was employed while a sample of 240 undergrads was selected through a stratified sampling procedure from the study population of 534 students. A structured questionnaire designed on a 5-point Likert scale of strongly agree to strongly disagree was the means of data collection. The instrument was structured and pretested to ascertain the content validity and reliability of the instrument through Cronbach alpha coefficient of 0.76 and 0.85 for entrepreneurial education and orientation. The data were collected through the distribution of the pieces of questionnaire to undergraduate students and were collected. The data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis and independent samples t-test. The results indicated that practical and theoretical entrepreneurship education had a positive effect on entrepreneurial intention of undergraduates of universities. We concluded that entrepreneurship education is a key aspect in driving the intention of students towards entrepreneurship. Further, we recommended that both theoretical and practical entrepreneurship classes should be employed in imparting entrepreneurship curriculum contents and knowledge to students.

Abstract

The objective of this paper was to empirically examine the relationship between whistleblowing and voluntary tax compliance in Nigeria. The study used a survey research design in order to get the opinion of tax payers on the subject matter. For the paper, we administered copies of the questionnaire to tax payers within the Bells University of Technology, Ota Ogun State, Nigeria. The data collected from the field was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Ordinary least square regression analysis. The findings from the analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between whistleblowing and voluntary tax compliance. The paper concluded that Nigerian taxpayers are strongly influenced by the threat of punishment employed by the tax authority as well as other factors that are influential in encouraging their willingness to voluntarily comply with tax laws. It is recommended that Government should also ensure that taxpayers understand their tax obligations and find them easy to comply with. This may require that the government and revenue authorities should, at all times, act with integrity and in a manner that is perceived to be fair and reasonable.

Impediments to the provision of vocational education to the female in Nigeria were examined. Factors that hinder female performance on TVET concept were analyzed. Public-Private Partnerships Infrastructure Financing Model: How theoretical perspectives help explain cost-overrun in some select projects.

Public-Private Partnerships Infrastructure Financing Model: How theoretical perspectives help explain cost-overrun in some select projects.

Abstract

Despite the rising significance of Public-Private Partnerships as infrastructure financing model in developing countries’, their efficiency is currently undermined by challenges linked to cost overrun. Although studies focusing on this issue have been discussed extensively, little effort has been made to theorise cost-overrun issues bedevilling PPP projects in Africa vis-à-vis Nigeria through the lens of economic theories of transaction cost and agency theories. Following the deployment of a flexible abductive research approach in order to use theory with an immense degree of provenance to explain the propositions surrounding this particular phenomenon and case study to enable the development of context-dependent knowledge, this study investigates the likely triggers of cost-overrun in the case studies of two failed projects in Nigeria and its link to select economic theories. Subsequently, the paper developed a three-phase conceptual framework to improve PPP implementation and provide insulation for cost overruns. The study findings are valuable to the literature as they will deepen the understanding of theoretical linkages to cost-overrun issues in transport infrastructure.

The effectiveness of Igbo Apprenticeship Model in Nigeria: How Can these Master-Servant Intersection Improve Youth Employment in Nigeria’s Informal Sector.

The effectiveness of Igbo Apprenticeship Model in Nigeria: How Can these Master-Servant Intersection Improve Youth Employment in Nigeria’s Informal Sector.

Abstract: In the face of extreme poverty, amplified by massive youth unemployment in Nigeria, this study theorises that collaboration between the government and private sectors to mobilise resources to restructure the Igbo apprenticeship model is a panacea to rising youth unemployment in Nigeria. Against this backdrop, this study examines the factors militating Nigeria’s Igbo apprenticeship model decline through the qualitative methodology. Results show that the apprenticeship duration, lack of education integration and provision of seed capital upon graduation from the apprenticeship training are the top three challenges triggering failure. Recommendation stressed that the Igbo apprenticeship model solely practised by the informal private sectors of Igbo origin could drop the unemployment rate in Nigeria if the government reformed the process by introducing grants or seed capital and education for the apprentice. There is optimism that both would achieve more together than the current practice where the practitioners are left practising the old-fashioned model.

Quality of Institutions as a Determinant of Foreign Direct Investment Inflow and Economic Growth: Recent Empirical Evidence from Nigeria.

Abstract

The inflow of foreign direct investment has been recognized in economic literature and proven by empirical studies as one of the key drivers of economic growth, especially on the heel of its roles in filling the resource gap and enabling knowledge and technology transfer in developing countries. This paper investigates the impacts of the quality of institutions and effective policy on the inflow of foreign direct investment and economic growth in Nigeria from 2012 – 2021. The study utilizes a quantitative research technique to assess how the quality of institutions in Nigeria has either enabled or hindered the inflow of FDI and economic growth. Evidence shows that the poor quality of institutions in Nigeria has bred inefficient bureaucracy, corruption, and weak governance which in turn encroach on indices of economic freedom such as legal structure and security of property rights and regulation of credit, labour, and business. Low economic freedom triggers low FDI inflow which has inhibited favourable economic growth outcomes in Nigeria. We, therefore, recommend the following policy applications, amongst others: building and strengthening effective institutions to transmit efficient information and protect property rights, improving the macroeconomic policy framework to address macroeconomic instability which distorts the policy environment, and implementing effective corruption control measures to strengthen governance and its institutions which is fundamental to the inflow of foreign direct investment and economic growth in Nigeria.
